Tips for preserving Raf tomato

Learn how to keep your Raf tomatoes

At pepeRaf, we help you keep your Raf tomatoes properly, depending on how and when you are going to consume them.

Remove your Raf tomatoes from the shipping box.

Raf tomato releases much faster than the rest of “ethylene” tomatoes, and this release is what causes them to ripen faster. Therefore, take the tomatoes from the box where we send them to you since the concentration of ethylene will be very high during transport, especially in the hottest months.

Calculate your consumption of Raf tomato.

Raf tomatoes have a maximum of 3-4 days in which they can be stored at room temperature. Therefore, leave out the tomatoes you are going to consume in those days, and put the rest in the fridge. These days can be extended if it is cold, or by following these tips.

Tomato Raf does not like heat or light.

To keep your tomatoes without putting them in the fridge, place them in a wicker basket or similar, but have openings so that the "ethylene" dissipates, always in a cool place and not light, so you can cover them with cloth or soft cloth.

If you have no choice, put them in the fridge.

The ideal is to consume them without going through the frigo, since they can lose some flavor, but if several days pass it will always be better for the frigo to soften and lose turgidity. The ideal cold storage temperature is 5-7 degrees, and place them always alone, without mixing with other vegetables.

Temper your Raf tomatoes when you take them out of the fridge.

To consume your Raf tomatoes that are in the fridge, it is very important that you temper them so that they return to recover aromas and other properties. Remove them from the refrigerator at least 3 or 4 hours before consuming them and leave them at room temperature.

These tips can help you, but keep in mind that like almost everything in life, it is best to apply common sense and adapt to them in the best possible way.

Enjoy them!!
